Bison Benefits

Despite being similar, Bison and Beef differ in many ways which is why Bison is fast becoming popular as a leaner, healthier, and more natural alternative to often mass produced beef.

Quality

Our herd is raised in an open, stress free environment on our ranch which is also our home. Our lands are kept natural and wild, just like our bison who also have access to the best all natural feed and care possible ensuring we deliver meat of the utmost quality.

Heritage

The North American bison has a long history of feeding this great continent, enduring countless challenges for tens of thousands of years, including almost being hunted to extinction by the late 19th century. Today they are thriving once again and we honour their heritage in everything we do.

Local

We believe strongly that what you eat should come from where you live. We are proud to help feed our local communities by providing them with a source of high quality meat that’s ethically grown.

vs

Bison Over Beef

Bison and beef differ significantly in several key aspects. Bison meat is notably leaner than beef, with lower fat content and fewer calories per serving. Despite its leanness, bison meat offers a rich, slightly sweeter flavor that many find distinctive and enjoyable. In terms of nutrition, bison is generally higher in protein and provides essential nutrients like iron and zinc. Additionally, bison are typically raised on open pastures and fed a natural diet, which appeals to those seeking sustainable and environmentally friendly food choices. Overall, choosing bison over beef can offer a healthier, leaner option without sacrificing flavor or nutritional value.

Feeding

True Grit Bison are fed minerals, hay, molasses, and oats based on their age. As bison get closer to finishing, we allow them free choice feed – meaning they have access to high quality oats, hay and water as desired.

Butchering

We select our butchers based on the cleanliness of their facility, expertise, and reputation. All our butchers have been approved by Alberta Health Services and are regularly inspected.

Handling

We handle bison in a low stress environment to review the animals’ overall health and to prevent worms using Ivomec. A happy herd is a healthy herd.
